Humana is a private care group that has grown significantly by organic growth and acquisitions. The group consists of 60 legal entities and turns over approximately 5 billion SEK.  

To meet an increasing need for follow-up and group reporting, the company invested in new ERP and business management solutions. The company still needed to put in an extensive amount of time to consolidate the data from the different systems.

- We used to consolidate our group data in Excel and had to enter newly acquired companies manually to be able to close our books. Kugghuset helped us to build the integration between our systems which practically have eliminated all requirements for manual input, Christer says. 

Humana also wanted to develop and retrieve more complex KPIs out of its data, which required several advanced calculations. 

 - We felt a need to analyse our data more in-depth, and that the KPIs we were working with could be complemented. This led up to us formulating a "wish-report" with insights and KPIs, which we could not create by ourselves. Kugghuset has a creative ability and technical skill that made that wish-report possible.

Technical competence and an understanding for the business are necessary requirements for a good BI solution. 

- Kugghuset has helped us to streamline our work with consolidation and given us a wider body of knowledge. They have a good ability to understand the logics. It is often not enough with technical competence by itself to create a good foundation for business intelligence, you need an understanding for the business which Kugghuset has. When we give them an assignment I feel confident that they will solve the issue at hand fast, Christer finishes.

CHALLENGES:

  • Humana hade since many years worked with its consolidation in Excel and was to implement a new system for consolidated statements with a tight time schedule

  • The organisation went through significant restructurings during the implementation phase, and these needed to be reflected correctly in the consolidated statements  

  • Accounts were to be closed in the middle of summer directly after the implementation of the new system for consolidated statements

SOLUTIONS:

  • An integration between the company's ERP system MS Dynamics NAV and the system for consolidated statements by Aaro was built in SQL Server

  • A model in PowerPivot was created to for the first time enable an overview of the organisational structure as it was entered into the system for consolidated statements 

  • A number of financial reports for operational follow-up and groundwork for closing of accounts were created with ExOpen Report

RESULTS:

  • Time for implementation of the system for consolidated statements was significantly reduced 

  • Time for reporting from CFOs in subsidiaries have been eliminated

  • The first closing of the books in the new system could be delivered in time and upcoming processes have been optimized

  • The company could, from day one, use the system for consolidated statements for its operative reporting
